Corner of mouth cracking

My aunt got dentures and ever since then, I’ve noticed the corners of her mouth cracking. Is this related? If so, what can be done about it?

I’m glad you’re there to look after your aunt. There are many reasons for this to happen. It is “officially” known as Angular Chelitis. Despite their being many possible reasons for it, If this has coincided with her getting dentures, then I’d check that first.

It could be as simple as poorly fitting dentures. Take her in to the dentist and have him look at it. If that is the problem, he’ll have to make her new dentures. Though inconvenient, it will solve her problem.

If that isn’t it, then I’d go to a doctor next and start eliminating possible causes. It could be as simple as an iron deficiency or a fungal infection.  Her doctor can help her determine the cause.
