Avoiding Bulky Teeth

My best friend and I are both getting smile makeovers. She got hers done first, because her dentist could fit her in first.  My first appointment is in two days.  Her teeth do look better, but not as good as I thought they would. I actually think they’re a little bulky looking.  Is there a way to avoid that?

Denae,

I’m glad you’ve written before your appointment.  What most people don’t know is there is not a recognized specialization for cosmetic dentistry. In fact, any general dentist can call themselves a cosmetic dentist.  Most of those techniques are not taught in dental school. It takes significant post-graduate training.

Don’t be shy about asking your dentist about his qualifications. You’re spending a lot of money to get a gorgeous smile and that’s what you deserve to get.  I’d also ask him about any guarantee he has. Many cosmetic dentists have  some procedure in place to guarantee the patient’s satisfaction BEFORE the porcelain veneers are permanently bonded on. If he doesn’t have one–run.

I suspect your best friend went to a dentist who knew how to do the procedure, but wasn’t very artistic. It will be worth it to have to drive a little out of your way to go to an expert cosmetic dentist.  I’d look on the mynewsmile.com website.  They screen and recommend only the best cosmetic dentists in each state.  You’ll be safe with anyone you get through their site.
